Dear Reader,

Where has your freedom gone?

On Sept. 14, 1814 — in the poem that would become our national anthem — Francis Scott Key described our young country as “the land of the free and the home of the brave”

Today from my office in Baltimore — within walking distance of the very place Mr. Key penned those words — I wonder why so much has changed in 200 years.

What happened to the Free? Where are the Brave?

Despite the ideals of our forefathers, we’ve let the hand of government invade every aspect of our lives.
