Greg’s Note: We’ve been hearing for some time now about the rising costs of food in this country. The reason for these high costs are not as simple as some people think. Not only are we seeing record prices for grains and other crops, but also the high cost of fuel is making the harvesting of the crops in particular, as well as the simple shipping of the food across the country very expensive. Some prices are already out of hand and could still have a ways to go. Greg’s Note: The 80’s hair metal band Cinderella once exclaimed that you “don’t know what you got (‘till it’s gone).” I’m sure this power ballad wasn’t meant to inform investors about the world’s agricultural markets, but the parable is certainly apt in today’s markets. Many of our most important resources are running out and at the very least, they are reaching historic price levels.
